hey, we're BMC!
BUT UNDER THE SURFACE I WAS STRUGGLING, WITH MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES AND ADDICTION PROBLEMS.
Hi, I'm Matt, the founder of BMC. I’ve been teaching Vedic Meditation and living, eating and breathing Vedic knowledge for the last ten years. But before I found Vedic Meditation my life was very different.
I tried everything ... antidepressants, addiction groups, therapy, but I still wasn’t happy, my lifestyle choices were hurtling out of control and my relationships were suffering.
I grew up in England and was a professional house music dj for a long time, so as you can probably imagine I wasn’t living the healthiest lifestyle. I came to Australia 20 years ago and started a wine marketing business with some friends that became very successful. So on the surface everything was going really well.
Much to everyone’s astonishment, not least my own, my addictions disappeared overnight. My mental health got loads better too. Then to cap it off, we sold our wine business so I was free to pursue a career teaching this incredible meditation technique which had turned my life around.
Since then I have dedicated my life to teaching Vedic Meditation in a way which is fun and relatable. I love the fact that people come to BMC from all walks of life, from business executives and young mums to party people and backpackers.
Then 15 yrs ago I found Vedic Meditation.
Mairead joined Matt in 2019, first as a business consultant, then centre manager and now as Managing Partner and teacher of Vedic Meditation and Vedic Astrology at Bondi Meditation Centre. Like Matt, Mairead has all the key qualities required of a BMC teacher: she is dedicated to her students, she is down-to-earth and relatable, and funny.
Vedic Meditation Teacher and Astrologer, Mairead Ball.
Mairead came to Vedic Meditation burnt out from her corporate role and suffering from incessant thinking and anxiety. In 2016, on the evening of the second day of her Vedic Meditation course with Matt she found herself having an experience of spontaneous happiness and complete contentment. And that was it. She was hooked.
In 2020 in the midst of the first wave of Covid, locked down in the Indian Himalayas, Mairead completed her three month teacher training program and has been teaching at BMC ever since.
Natalia has always been passionate about education. She used to teach English as a Second Language across universities and international language schools in Sydney. However, her life took an unexpected turn when she started suffering from anxiety in 2020 as a result of burnout and the uncertainties of the global pandemic.
This is when Natalia found BMC and discovered Vedic Meditation. In the first two weeks of learning to meditate, the symptoms of anxiety suddenly disappeared, and she felt an immediate and profound effect of relief on her physical and emotional wellbeing.
Since that time, she set off on the path of becoming a Vedic Meditation Teacher. Natalia began working at BMC in the role of Centre Coordinator in 2022 and then became our third teacher after completing her Teacher Training in India in early 2023. Natalia loves sharing the benefits of Vedic Meditation with others and helping them achieve inner peace, balance and clarity.
Event Coordinator and Vedic Meditation Teacher, Natalia Paklina
Matt, Mairead and Natalia have received some of the most comprehensive (and intense) training of any meditation teachers in the world.
After consistently practicing Vedic Meditation and studying the body of Vedic knowledge that accompanies it for several years, they completed 3 months of intensive residential training. Think 4am starts and 1am finishes (yes only 3 hours sleep a night), with 14 hours of meditation in between. No phones, a diet of rice and dahl and to top it off—a constant stream of extremely challenging memory tests.
They continue to advance their training and study of the Veda every day, out of love for the knowledge and so they can share this wisdom with their students.
"Amazing teachers with a wealth of wisdom that they share with kindness and compassion. Highly recommend learning Vedic Meditation with the BMC crew."
— SaraH, CURREnt student
Anna first came to BMC as an admin assistant. She warned Matt that she always got told off for ‘asking too many questions’, but Matt realised her insightful inquiry could be a key ingredient in the new Vedic knowledge podcast series he was considering. That podcast became Very Vedic which is now in its third series and is centred around Anna’s questions.
Following the success of Very Vedic, Anna and Matt also worked together on the online course Learn to Let Go, with Anna again showing her knack for asking questions which get to the heart of the knowledge.
then along came Anna apps.
